Welcome to the Hangul Writing Practice Workbook. This book was designed to give you a clean, focused space to develop your Korean handwriting from the very beginning. Whether you are just learning to recognize the alphabet or you are ready to build muscle memory through repetition, every page in this book has a purpose.
Begin with the Reference Charts. Before you start tracing or writing, spend time with the vowel reference chart (page 5) and the consonant reference chart (page 6). These pages show you every basic Hangul character alongside its romanization and a sound example to help you connect the visual shape to the sound it makes. Use these pages as a lookup guide whenever you need to check a character during practice. The practice columns on the right side of each chart are yours to fill in — writing a character a few times directly on the reference page is a great way to anchor it in your memory before moving on.
Use the Tracing Pages to build your foundation. The tracing section (pages 7 through 56) contains grids of boxes with light gray guide marks inside. These marks — center lines and diagonal references — are there to help you understand character proportion and placement. Trace lightly with a pencil at first, then go over your strokes with more confidence as each character starts to feel natural. The guide marks will fade into the background as your eye learns where each element belongs within the square block.
Move to the Manuscript Rows for independent writing practice. Pages 57 through 96 give you open two-line manuscript rows. Each row is framed by a solid top and bottom line, with a soft guide line at the midpoint to help with character height. Use these rows to practice writing characters freely, string vowels and consonants into syllable blocks, or simply repeat any character you find challenging. There is no right or wrong order — follow your own learning rhythm.
Practice full syllable combinations on the Grid Pages. Pages 97 through 110 contain large square practice grids for writing complete syllable blocks — combinations of a consonant and a vowel that form one Korean syllable. Each box has light gray structural guides to help you place the initial consonant, vowel, and final consonant (batchim) in their correct positions. Use these pages once you feel confident with individual characters and are ready to practice putting them together.
Use the Notes Pages to track what you are learning. Pages 111 through 118 are lined notes pages. Use them to write vocabulary words you want to remember, jot down grammar notes, record the characters you have mastered, or work through anything your lessons or study materials have given you. There are no rules — these pages are a personal workspace for your Korean language journey.
A note on consistency: progress in handwriting comes from short, regular sessions rather than long, infrequent ones. Even ten minutes of focused practice each day will create visible improvement within a few weeks. Move at your own pace, use the reference charts whenever you need them, and treat every page as a stepping stone rather than a test.
